If you saw, a couple of days ago, I posted this tweet:
It’s been a rough time. He doesn’t have a twitter, so I had to hear about this from his Facebook account. In short, he was walking home, and was being called gay slurs from three guys. He tried to cross the street to avoid them, but apparently one of them followed him. Next thing he knows, he woke up at home on a bloody pillow and had multiple texts about him missing work.
He has no real memory of the actual beating, nor how he even got home. I imagine he may have been in shock. Later, his roommate found him unconscious, covered in vomit, and barely breathing. After calling an ambulance, he was put on life support and was in a coma for a day or two.
Thankfully, he is now awake and breathing on his own. Since I’m not nearby, I can unfortunately only get updates from his own Facebook page. He is not allowed, nor in a place (emotionally or physically) for visitors. While I don’t know any other exact details, it sounds like his condition is improving–though he has suffered a herniated disc in his back, and has had multiple seizures. But it’s definitely going to be a long road of recovery for him.
It’s just heartbreaking to hear of such an incident happening to not only someone I know (who is the sweetest, kindest guy ever), but even worse that it somehow happened in San Fransisco. It’s scary times we live in, and nowhere is truly “safe” anymore.
