Where have I been? Well, busy as usual. Fortunately, I’ve been able to find some time to spend with Sam. On the unfortunate side, it hasn’t really been able to involve sex lately, because we’re both so exhausted at the end of the day (work has been pretty frantic for him, as well). Still, it’s very nice to have each other’s company, and we do enjoy our time spent together, even if it doesn’t get to include sex (for the moment… we hope to remedy this soon!).
The biggest event is the the play I saw Saturday night. As strange as this sounds, Sam and I saw a play about… Sam and I! No kidding!
Short version: my first boyfriend, Tim, was a writer. We lasted about 3 years, but then broke up in a fairly ugly and sudden manner. I had run into him a few times in the intervening 8 years, but he had always ignored me. In the last few years, I had been ready to at least be friendly to him, but he never seemed responsive.
Well, last October, we ended up sitting across from each other at a restaurant. Literally one table away. Just a strange coincidence… it was practically a TV cliche! Almost too unrealistic to be believed. To make it worse, I was having dinner with Sam at the time, so I had to explain all this to him in semi-hushed whispers on what was supposed to be a romantic dinner. Fortunately, he had my support when I suggested trying to say hello to him. As he left, I called out his name, and to my surprise, he answered back and we had a nice, short, but civil conversation. He gave me his email, and (with Sam’s knowledge) I wrote him. We have since reconciled, and write with occasional frequency to chat and catch up.
Flash forward… he tells me he’s written a play (Tim is a writer, although usually fiction, not plays). A One Act, to be exact. And it was going to be put on by a local theater group. And what was the play about? You got it… the situation of seeing each other unexpectedly at dinner. While it certainly had fictitious elements, the gist of it was based in truth. For his part, Tim was terrified I’d be upset, but frankly, I found it hilarious, and oddly flattering. I said I was interested in going. I told Sam, and he was a good enough sport to go as well. So we did!
Did you ever see an episode of Absolutely Fabulous called “Small Opening” (from Season 4)? It was about Edina and Patsy seeing a play about themselves that Saffy had written. Well, this was pretty much the same experience. It was surreal, but exhilarating and funny at the same time. I suppose not many people can say they’ve seen a play about themselves. Sam and I also found ourselves to be minor celebrities at the play, as Tim introduced us as the original inspiration to his friends, which resulted in a lot of, “Oh, you’re the one!”
I am proud to say that the guy who played me was pretty hot–don’t you agree? 🙂 But straight. Well, we can’t have it all. In any case, I do have to say I had a good time at a very unique experience.
