So last night I saw a new play called Looped. It’s about Tallulah Bankhead, and it’s based on a true account where she was supposed to come in and loop (re-record) a single line of dialog from a movie. It should have taken about 5 minutes, but in her inebriated state, it took well over 8 hours. This play is a fictional account of how that session went.
For those of you who do not know who Tallulah was, go find out about her. She puts starts of today to shame. Yes, she was very sexual, and a drug/alcoholic mess… but she was also uncannily witty, sharp, and insightful. A fascinating woman who puts empty, shallow sluts like Paris Hilton to shame.
It starts Valerie Harper as Tallulah, and she is absolutely amazing in the roll. It co-stars the cute twink Chad Allen. He is fun to look at, despite the fact that he plays a very straight-laced, uptight nerdy guy (with a secret!). Sadly, he does not take his shirt off, but remains in a business suit the entire time. As much as I like to look at him, he is fairly out-acted by Valerie. There’s just no stopping her. It’s also very gay-friendly, as Tallulah herself was noted to be. If you ask me, she was one of the original gay icons.
If you are in the Pasadena area, go see this play. You will be entertained and moved. And you get to look at Chad Allen. BTW… in the audience the night I went was Kyan Douglas, the cutie from Queer Eye. If you don’t believe me, trust that he must have some taste, too. 😉
