A fun celebrity story I’ve never shared… back when I got married to my husband, I was surprised to learn that we’d have a celebrity at our wedding. An actual, honest to goodness celebrity.
Despite living in Southern California (SoCal to those in the know) our entire lives, we really don’t know any celebrities firsthand. We do see them on occasion out and about, but probably not as often as you’d imagine. And many times, it’s a minor celebrity (I once saw game show host Chuck Woolery. But I’ve also seen Chad Allen many years ago… even caught a glimpse of his flip flopped feet… and Rami Malek once in a theme park).
But it turns out one of my husband’s co-workers was one of those people somewhat connected, and this guy brought Wilson Cruz as his date.
If you don’t know, Wilson Cruz rose to fame as being one of the first openly gay TV teens on the show My So Called Life. He later also notably played Angel in the movie Party Monster, and is/was currently on Star Trek: Discovery–I believe as the first openly gay Star Trek crew member. He’s also done a lot of work with LGBT rights.
And yes, I did get to say hello to him and take a pic. We had a great wedding for lots of other reasons as well… but that was a pretty memorable one that reminded me we are SoCal natives. 🙂
