I was scrolling on twitter (when I was still on it–more on that below), and came across a reply to a video that was posted, wishing it had a different ending. A somewhat innocuous, if not a commonplace, remark. But it make me think, and later realize, why I think I generally prefer pics as porn, even in an age of gifs and videos.
Let’s get away from porn for just one moment, and think about the early days of media. Before there was television. There was a time that the main source of entertainment was radio. In addition to music, there were entire radio dramas and serialized shows of all genres: comedy, variety, mystery, drama, and horror. Many of these shows still exists online.
Of course, once television came around, those radio shows died off pretty quickly. Many of them transitioned to television successfully, but many did not. And for a long time, radio dramas were largely forgotten.
But a small segment still prefered them. And the main reason was, you were able to fill in the details and the visuals yourself. On radio, you can just describe a majestic palace, and your mind will fill in the details. So it feels very personal.
I think there has been some recent recognition back to this, with podcasts going strong. And while many of them are just interviews and the like, podcasts of fictional dramas are also returning.
What does this have to do with pics as porn, you may ask? Well, with a pic, I get to fill in my own beginning, middle, and end to the pic. I can imagine my own scenarios of how the pic got to that point, and what happened after it. It allows me to fill in my own details, my own words, my own actions, and my own fantasies.
Obvioulsy there’s a place for video porn, and I do have a good number of them. But not nearly as many as pics, because with video, I can often echo the sentiment of the poster I first discussed… I’d want something different to happen. It’s not often I can find a video that’s exactly what turns me on.
But with a pic, I can cultivate that imagine into a fantasy of my choosing. And often for me, that’s more powerful.
On that note, just a reminder that I completely deleted my old twitter account. Elon can go fuck himself. In terms of social media, I am now primarily only on Bluesky.

I’m over 400 followers, but I did used to have almost 4.5K on twitter (though I’m pretty sure a few hundred of those were bots, lol), so there’s still quite a bit of rebuilding to do. But I am enjoying it over there!
