So I did end up going to the Hard Heroes party. I was able to go with my ex and his current BF, who are obviously good sports about having me tag along. (My BF wasn’t able to go.)
I do have to say that it was essentially my first time in a gay club in nearly 10 years. Even when I went gay clubs back in the day, I personally didn’t find them much to my personality, as I don’t drink, and I’m not good at cruising and/or socializing. I tend to unintentionally give off a “don’t bother me” vibe.
I was somewhat surprised to see that only about 25-ish% were dressed up in a decent costume. There were a lot of guys with body paint on (they were providing it), but I kinda don’t count that. I sort of wish more fetish people had actually dressed. A good chunk of people did at least have a superhero related shirt on, though, which I’ll probably wear next time if I ever go again. And for my taste, it was a bit cruisy. I generally don’t handle being cruised all that well, especially now that I’m a taken guy.
All that said, I’m still glad I went, but I’m not all that anxious to go again, and if I do, I may not dress up. We’ll see. There were a number of hot guys there, but I would have liked to have seen more hot guys in actual costume/lycra/spandex. For the record, my ex, who went last year, said the event was smaller, but had more guys dress up. So I’ll keep my options open.
