Thought I’d share some of my favorite music stations… and all of them are available with streaming on the iHeartRadio app/website!

When listening to music casually, I listen to a big variety. But fast becoming one of my favorite places to listen to music is the radio (!) station KGAY, based in Palm Springs, CA.

Because it’s a radio station, it does have occasional commercials. But it plays a great mix of current and classic gay hits that can’t be beat. There’s a fun article about the station and its history from LAist (the local NPR station) here.

And better still, if you use the iHeartRadio app/website, it’s available there! Definitely give it a listen (though it is a bit odd to hear commercials for local Palm Springs businesses and events when you don’t live there, haha).

If you don’t want to deal with commercials (though it does have DJs), try Pride Radio. I find they’re good for peppy, energetic electronic dance music and current hits (or dance remixes of them). I like them, but also find their variety could be more… to me, it gets a bit repetitive at times. A good supplement to it is it’s sister station, Pride Radio Flashback, for more classic dance songs.

Lastly, when you really need a change of pace, I also enjoy SoCal Sound. It isn’t “gay” music like the other stations I mentioned, but it’s a great mix of college radio eclectic music… some of which are classics, others deep cuts, and many new songs and artists you likely don’t know yet! They also have segments dedicated to world music, Latin music, and folk. It’s commercial free as well, though there are DJs and occasional pledge drives. Nic Harcourt from NPR’s Morning Becomes Eclectic is a DJ there, so if you’re familiar with that, you know what you’re in for! And I only recently found out it’s also available on iHeartRadio. Who knew so much good music was there?
